Pháp Dịch Việt - Anh về Nội động từ,
Ngoại động từ. Nội động từ là gì? Ngoại động từ là gì? Nó khác nhau như thế
nào? Nó giữ chức năng gì trong câu? Cách dùng nó như thế nào? Cách phân biệt 2
loại động từ này như thế nào? Mời các bạn xem bên dưới.
1. Transitive verbs: are verbs that
have subjects or objects that receive the action. They are either active voice
or passive voice. Such sentences are deemed as complete sentences, otherwise
incomplete sentences.
Ngoại động từ: là những động
từ có chủ từ hay túc từ nhận hành động. Những động từ đó có thể được chia ở dạng
chủ động hoặc bị động. Những câu như thế là câu hoàn chỉnh, ngược lại là câu
chưa hoàn chỉnh.
Ex: The shelf holds. (incomplete)
The shelf holds three books and a vase of
flowers. (complete)
+ The verb "holds" is transitive and takes 2
objects in this sentence which are “three books” and “a vase of flowers”. The
two act as direct objects describing what the shelf “holds”.
+ Động từ “holds” là ngoại động từ và nó nhận 2
túc từ trong câu là “the books” và “a
vase of flowers”. Hai tân ngữ này là hai túc từ trực tiếp mô tả cái kệ giữ cái
gì.
2. Intransitive verbs, on the other
hand, cannot take a direct object:
Nội động từ: thì ngược lại,
không nhận túc từ trực tiếp.
Ex 1: This plant has thrived on the south
windowsill.
+ The compound
verb "has thrived" is
intransitive and takes no direct object in this sentence. The prepositional
phrase "on the south windowsill" acts as an adverb describing where
the plant thrives.
+ Cụm động từ “has thrived” là nội động từ và nó không
nhận túc từ trực tiếp trong câu này. Ngữ giới từ “on the south windowsill” đóng
vai trò như là một trạng từ để mô tả nơi mà cái cây nó lớn nhanh.
Ex 2: The sound of
the choir carried through the
cathedral.
+ The verb "carried" is used
intransitively in this sentence and takes no direct object. The prepositional
phrase "through the cathedral" acts as an adverb describing where the
sound carried.
+ Động từ “carried” được dùng như là một nội động
từ trong câu và không nhận túc từ trực tiếp. Ngữ giới từ “through the cathedral”
đóng vai trò là một trạng từ mô tả nơi mà âm vang từ ca đoàn nhà thờ.
3. Many verbs can be either transitive or
intransitive,
depending on their context in the sentence. In the following pairs of
sentences, the first sentence uses the verb transitively and the second uses
the same verb intransitively:
Một số động từ có thể vừa là ngoại động từ vừa
là nội động từ
, tùy vào ngữ cảnh trong câu. Trong hai cặp ví dụ sau , câu đầu dùng nội động
từ, câu thứ hai dùng ngoại động từ.
Ex 1:
+ According to the
instructions, we must leave
this goo in our hair for twenty minutes.
In this example,
the verb "leave" takes a
direct object, the noun phrase "this goo." => “leave” is transitive.
+ We would like to
stay longer, but we must leave.
In this example,
the verb "leave" does not
take a direct object. => “leave”
is intransitive.
Ex 2:
In this example,
the verb "watched" is used
transitively and takes the noun phrase "the latest production of The
Trojan Women" as a direct object. => “watched” is transitive.
+ The cook watched while the new dishwasher
surreptitiously picked up the fragments of the broken dish.
In this example,
the verb "watched" is used
intransitively and takes no direct object. =>
“watched” is intransitive.
